Solar Frontier Americas Completes the Sale of 40 MW Solar Project to Dominion

TOKYO, April 11, 2017 – Solar Frontier Americas, U.S. subsidiary of the world’s largest CIS solar energy solutions provider, Solar Frontier, announced today it has sold its 40 megawatts (DC) (30 megawatts AC), Midway II solar power plant to a subsidiary of Dominion Energy Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Dominion Resources, Inc., one of the leading energy suppliers in the country. Dominion serves more than 6 million utility and retail energy customers throughout the U.S.

The Midway II Project, located in the Imperial County of California, is constructed with approximately 242,000 Solar Frontier advanced CIS solar modules mounted on NEXTracker’s high performance single-axis solar trackers. The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Imperial Irrigation District (the third largest public power utility in California serving the Imperial Valley) for the electricity produced by the plant.

Midway II (sited on 320-acres northwest of Calipatria, California) is part of Solar Frontier America’s 106 megawatts (DC) Midway projects portfolio. In total, Solar Frontier Americas’ project pipeline has over 400 megawatts of solar projects in various stages of development.

Charles Pimentel, COO of Solar Frontier Americas said, “We’re pleased Dominion is expanding its assets with a solar project developed by Solar Frontier Americas. As a highly successful Fortune 500 company, we applaud the growth of their renewable energy portfolio, their commitment to sustainable energy generation and the reduction of environmental carbon emissions.”

Midway II is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the needs of over 6,500 homes annually. The construction of the Midway projects boosted local employment with over 670 jobs and benefited the county with increased tax revenues that can be invested into programs for local residents.

“This acquisition highlights Dominion’s ongoing commitment to owning and operating renewable energy generation. We are pleased to work with Solar Frontier to provide more clean energy to the grid,” said Jim Eck, Vice President, Business Development & Merchant Operations for Dominion’s generation operating segment.
